Wassens explains that he consciously chose the Leiden teacher training college from a health perspective and because of the SSGS programme. Van Ark explains that the SSGS programme was originally created because schools wanted to start working on health but had little knowledge of areas such as nutrition and exercise. She also increasingly recognised the importance of exercise in education. The core of the programme therefore became: implementing structural change in the area of health at your own school.

Wassens also mentions a side effect of paying more attention to sport and health: the teacher training programme has consequently become more attractive to men.

He also points to the importance of change management: how do you get the various stakeholders on board to make a school more active and healthier?
