From 5 to 12 April, the Media Ukkie Days 2024 will take place. During the Media Ukkie Days, extra attention is devoted to media education for children aged 0 to 6. The Media Ukkie Days are also important for professionals in childcare and primary education.

With the Media Ukkie Days, the Media Literacy Network annually draws parents’ and (professional) caregivers’ attention to the importance of media education for children aged 0 to 6. The very youngest children find their way around the digital world incredibly quickly. Toddlers and preschoolers swipe their way to their favourite videos and apps. But being digitally skilled does not necessarily mean being media literate.

Relaxing with media

For young and old alike, media are all around us throughout the day. From early in the morning until late at night, we are surrounded by screens, books, speakers and devices that demand our attention.

These media affect your little one. They can stimulate, get them moving, make them think or, conversely, help them relax. But they can also be a source of unrest, cause overstimulation or be too challenging. Fortunately, parents, friends, family and caregivers are there to regularly help our little ones relax in a healthy way. With and without media.

To help children and caregivers with this, the Media Ukkie Days from 5 to 12 April 2024 will focus on the influence of media on relaxation. With practical tips, you and your child can find the right balance for your situation. In many different ways, you will learn more during the campaign about how media can help create calm, and when your child might be better off without them for a while.
