Self-help app Maxx

Maxx is a self-help app that supports everyone in cutting down or stopping their alcohol consumption, thereby contributing to a healthier lifestyle. Maxx lets you know how you are doing, encourages you and provides tips. It also offers practical exercises, tests and tips to help you achieve your goal. During difficult moments, Maxx reminds you of your most important motivation for wanting to address your alcohol use. The app is based, among other things, on cognitive behavioural therapy and self-regulation theory. Research shows that self-help interventions can have a positive effect on reducing alcohol consumption.

Maxx helps you set goals and recognise patterns

Whether you want to stop drinking alcohol altogether or cut down, Maxx helps you set personal goals. Recording alcohol use in a logbook teaches users to recognise patterns and keeps their goals clearly in view.

Maxx motivates you to keep going

Starting to stop or cut down is a good first step. Maintaining reduced alcohol consumption is often more difficult. Maxx helps through motivational cards and ‘tailored feedback’. Maxx also helps you deal with difficult situations and relapse. For example, a drinks gathering at your sports club, an uncle’s birthday or a friend’s party. These are all moments when not drinking or drinking less is an extra challenge.

The Maxx app provides information about the effects of alcohol. Knowing what alcohol does to your body and mind can provide extra motivation to keep up your efforts to stop or cut down.
