The theme of the Media Ukkie Days 2023 was Balance: moving with media. Digital media have become an integral part of young children's lives. This was also evident this year from the in-depth Iene Miene Media study.
The same study shows that media use and sitting still are increasing. That is why this year there was extra attention for balance and how you can use media to encourage movement. With the ten tips, you can easily create a balance between sitting still and being active, with and without media.
The network in motion
This year too, the network was the driving force behind the success of the Media Ukkie Days. Libraries, daycare centres and schools drew attention to the campaign in many different ways. Here is a selection of the many, many activities that were organised:
- (Grand)parents and parenting professionals could once again register for various webinars packed with information. For example, the webinar from the KB. Bureau Jeugd & Media, gro-up and Family Factory also offered an online session.
- Activities could be attended in an enormous number of libraries during the Media Ukkie Days. From storytelling to digital treasure hunts and from a baby drive-in to a mothers' café.
- Childcare centres were also keeping busy. In the run-up to the Media Ukkie Days, Humankind designed the Balance Board. A tool to gain more insight into media use within the whole family and in the group.
- Another useful tool was developed this year by gro-up. Especially for the Media Ukkie Days, the Media & Movement dice game was developed. This allows you to work on balance together with your little one in a fun way.
- In this article, Rebecca Beck (Knowledge Centre for Sport & Exercise) and Aniek Breevoort (Media Literacy Network) explain why the balance between sitting still and moving is so important, and provide practical guidance that you can put into practice immediately.
- And shortly before the Media Ukkie Days began, various partners had already spoken during the Network Session Moving with media? This is how you create a healthy balance for little ones. Read the report here!
