The following five active secondary schools have been nominated:

  • Blariacumcollege (Venlo-Blerick)
  • ORS Lek en Linge (Culemborg)
  • Praktijkschool De Einder (The Hague)
  • Roelof van Echten College (Hoogeveen)
  • Stedelijk College Eindhoven – vmbo-locatie Oude Bossche Baan (Eindhoven)

With the award, KVLO wants to recognise schools that offer their students an active, inspiring and dynamic learning environment. Secondary schools have enthusiastically registered to participate in the Active School Award in recent months. This made it clear that many schools are ‘on the move’. Speed meetings were held with all the schools. The five nominated schools are each inspiring examples.

Working on physical activity and sport in education pays off!

Sufficient physical activity and good motor skills ensure that young people are more physically active and fitter both now and later in life. However, research repeatedly shows that students do not exercise enough. Students sit for an average of 9.7 hours a day! Only 33% of 12- to 17-year-olds meet the physical activity guidelines.
With the Active School Award, KVLO hopes to inspire and get schools moving, thereby contributing to the development of a healthy and active lifestyle.

The process leading up to the award ceremony

Before the award ceremony on 19 March, the jury will visit the nominated schools. There, the jury will be given a tour and will ask questions of the school management, Physical Education teachers and students at the school. The jury will then decide which school may receive the Active School Award on 19 March.

Award ceremony on 19 March

On 19 March, the nominated schools will present themselves in Zwolle during the Active Secondary Schools Inspiration Day. Following a sporty and inspiring programme for and with the schools, the award ceremony will take place. This day is organised in collaboration with the Beweegalliantie and Windesheim University of Applied Sciences Zwolle.

Prizes

All nominated schools will receive a voucher to further expand their sports and physical activity programmes. The vouchers have been made available by the three major suppliers of sports and play equipment in the Netherlands: Bosan Sport, Janssen-Fritsen and Nijha. 12Springs will also provide a prize for the best or most original stage presentation by the students.
