In addition, JOGG’s reach grew considerably from 2015 to 2019. Among other things, this resulted in approximately 40 percent of Dutch municipalities being affiliated with JOGG in 2019, potentially reaching 1.2 million children and young people; nearly 1,700 associations being affiliated with Team:Fit; and 20 percent of schools having a Healthy School certificate for Nutrition or Physical Education and Sports, particularly in JOGG municipalities. JOGG has also joined various programmes and initiatives, such as Gezond Uit, and developed new ones, such as the Slaap Lekker! theme.

In recent years, JOGG has built a strong network of knowledge, business and civil-society partners and organisations. Renewing its vision of public-private collaboration provided an important stimulus in this regard, as JOGG focused exclusively on sustainable partnerships. Within programmes and initiatives, JOGG is working with an increasing number of partners and organisations on a healthy environment, both nationally and locally. New concrete collaboration agreements have also been made through covenants, and JOGG has established many partnerships.

These are some of the findings from a review of JOGG’s results achieved during the period 2015-2019, based on registrations, questionnaires completed by JOGG coordinators and policy officers, and interviews with (former) employees and JOGG municipalities. The review was commissioned by JOGG and conducted by the Mulier Institute. The report concludes with a reflection and points for attention for the future.

The main points for attention for JOGG in order to increase its impact are:

  • Further developing a vision and strategy for local sustainability and implementing these in the support provided to municipalities.
  • Focusing more on reaching the target groups where the greatest health gains can be achieved and which are not yet being reached effectively.
  • Making greater use of effective initiatives and working with effective elements of the approach.
  • Encouraging municipalities to guarantee sufficient staff hours for local JOGG teams.
  • Increasing the focus on knowledge and support for implementing the JOGG approach in JOGG municipalities, so that the approach is carried out as intended.
