Municipalities can sign up for a ‘toad plan‘, setting out measures at street level. Businesses can make their premises more amphibian-friendly.
Residents can join a toad conservation group or start using amphibian-friendly products, such as toad ladders and ‘frog logs’, floating rescue platforms that allow small animals to climb out of a swimming pool.
Schools and childcare centres have the opportunity to create ‘Tuiny Ponds‘ and use educational packs.
About Tuiny Ponds
Bring aquatic nature into your garden with the Tuiny Pond Basic Package, a native pond in a garden-friendly format. With this package of twelve carefully cultivated native aquatic plants, you can create a two-square-metre pond. In addition, you will receive the Tuiny Pond Installation Guide to create your pond step by step in a single day. You will also gain access to the Tuiny Pond e-learning course.
Good examples
To convince as many schools and childcare centres as possible, IVN is looking for good examples: schoolyards enhanced with a pond or pool. IVN would love to hear about your experiences and stories. Is it a welcome addition to the schoolyard? Do you ever teach lessons there? And do you ever see a toad there? Your story could inspire other schools during the campaign and help save the lives of many toads!
So, do you get a lot of enjoyment from having a pond or pool on or around your schoolyard? Let IVN know. You can do so here.
