Picture book

A picture book has been created for daycare centers. It enables childcare professionals to let a child choose how they want to celebrate their birthday, using five stories about the animals from www.peuterbeweging.nl celebrating. The picture book is intended for children aged 1 to 4. The main roles are played by Nellie the hippopotamus, Kees the frog, Sissi the snake, Paco the parrot and Luuk the lion. They turn out to have very different ideas about celebrating birthdays. Nellie the hippopotamus, for example, chooses a musical dance party, while Kees the frog loves a sand-and-water party. The common thread is that this takes place without handing out treats. Each story includes a page with ideas for childcare professionals on how to put it into practice. The picture book, which can be ordered here, can also be used at home or by babysitters.

To make the whole event even more festive, a coloring page and a party crown can be downloaded from the Peuterbeweging website.

Video adapted

Because daycare centers and after-school care have been added to the ‘It’s your birthday, let’s celebrate’ campaign, the accompanying promotional video for It’s your birthday, let’s celebrate has also been adapted. This time, not only primary schools but also De Zandvlinder daycare center are visited.

The video lists the reasons why schools, daycare centers and after-school care are switching from a policy of treats to a policy of celebration:

  • Financial differences no longer matter.
  • No more discussions about the size and contents of the treats.
  • No more stress when making and buying treats.
