As part of the ‘Stil Verdriet’ project, Stichting School & Veiligheid, Theater AanZ and Homo in de Klas are working with Christian Orthodox schools to make sexual diversity more visible and open to discussion in secondary education. The project partners assume that the potential to do this is present precisely in the religious identity of the school and its teachers. They want to encourage the quality of the conversation about this at school.
The elements of the project
Theater AanZ performs DAVID, a story about a courageous boy; about being true to yourself and to your faith, your family and your friends. DAVID is performed by three young people with a Protestant Christian background.
Stichting School & Veiligheid provides the training for the team. It focuses on how, as a team or individual teacher, you can support students’ development based on your own religious convictions within the context of society. This can be particularly instructive when it causes tensions around a topic such as gender and sexual diversity. The training lasts two half-days and includes working with a professional training actor. What is learned here can also be used for conversations within the team and with students about other sensitive topics.
Finally, Homo in de Klas explains its teaching module on sexual diversity at Christian schools, from Orthodox to liberal.
Christian Orthodox
The project runs until 2022 and offers places for thirty secondary schools. The stories are told by Christian experts by experience, which is why Christian Orthodox schools are given priority. We define Christian Orthodox schools as Catholic and Protestant Christian schools with a pronounced Christian religious identity, evangelical schools, Reformed schools and Reformation schools.
