From encouraging to professionalising

After twelve years of strongly focusing on encouraging more schools to pay attention to the health and well-being of their pupils and students, Healthy School will focus over the next four years on further improving and professionalising implementation in schools. Healthy School will also strengthen support for organisations that help schools in this regard. The multi-year plan explains how Healthy School will approach this and what schools can expect.

Strategic objectives

The Multi-Year Plan 2025-2028, ‘Doing What Works’, sets out six strategic objectives:

  • Working on the healthy living, learning and development of pupils and students receives school-wide and structural attention in the majority of all schools in primary, special, secondary and secondary vocational education.
  • Pupils, students, parents/carers and education professionals at schools working with the Healthy School approach experience that healthy living, learning and development is a guiding principle of the school.
  • For professionals in and around the school, working according to the Healthy School approach is a natural part of their daily work.
  • The school is part of the local network working on the healthy living, learning and development of children and young people.
  • Healthy School is a strong knowledge and collaboration partner and knows how to engage relevant parties.
  • Together with relevant parties, Healthy School advocates the importance of healthy living, learning and development through education.

Over the next four years, Healthy School will focus its efforts on:

  • Increasing the number of schools that work continuously on the healthy living, learning and development of pupils and students.
  • Improving implementation of the Healthy School approach in schools that are familiar with Healthy School.
  • Strengthening the position of schools in promoting a healthy lifestyle and Healthy School’s role in this.

Knowledge, implementation and collaboration that work

To ensure a healthy and vital future for children and young people, Healthy School works with knowledge and collaboration partners on:

Knowledge that works

They strengthen and innovate the quality and applicability of the Healthy School approach.

  • They gather and apply scientific knowledge, insights and practical experience.
  • They are introducing an online tool for schools to make it easier to work independently with the Healthy School approach.
  • They are repositioning the Healthy School quality mark as an incentive for new and experienced schools.

Implementation that works

They improve the implementation and embedding of the Healthy School approach in schools.

  • They increase the expertise of education professionals with knowledge, tools and practical guidance in a new online learning environment.
  • They support public health professionals in strengthening their position within the organisation and in the region, and encourage collaboration with municipalities and Youth Health Care.
  • They provide a nationwide help desk and additional advice and support through an incentive scheme for schools that need it.

Collaboration that works

They are the connecting force that brings parties together and encourages action towards the shared goal: promoting healthy living, learning and development in education.

  • They strengthen awareness of Healthy School and our position among schools, collaboration partners and funders.
  • They encourage and put on the agenda that collective health promotion, healthy behaviour and a healthy environment in schools should be the norm.
  • They monitor and respond to political and social developments.
