The magazine opens with an interview with alderman Marco Stam. According to him, the strength of the JOGG approach is that children and young people are shown the benefits of a healthy lifestyle. “We engage in conversation and try to positively influence the children’s mindset.” Ellis Koster, national adviser for the JOGG approach, believes that Dordrecht particularly excels in one of the most important environments for reaching children: schools and childcare centres. In her interview, she explains what other municipalities can learn from Dordrecht, among other things: “With every theme, you must always ensure that it is accessible.” Arthur van Moorst, who is responsible for JOGG in Dordrecht on behalf of the municipality, in turn identifies what he believes are the strengths of Dordrecht’s approach: a positive approach from the outset, measuring positively for a substantial period so that the effect can be measured, and an integrated approach involving many partners. The importance of monitoring and evaluation is subsequently underlined in an interview with researcher Evelien van Zwanenburg.
According to former JOGG coordinator Angelique Nijssen and current JOGG coordinator Jenna Davies, the secret of the JOGG approach in Dordrecht is achieving major progress through small steps and providing positive encouragement.
