Learning about sustainable roofs
In six interactive lessons, pupils explore the possibilities of their own school roof step by step. They investigate themes such as climate change, biodiversity, water collection and energy generation. Through practical assignments and research activities, they learn about the functions and importance of a sustainable roof. Ultimately, the pupils work towards creating their own design for their ideal ‘School Roof of the Future’.
The teaching package can be used flexibly: the six lessons can be scheduled according to your own preferences and timetable. The teaching materials align with the core objectives within the theme ‘orientation towards oneself and the world’ and use the educational approach of Story-Based Design. This makes it not only educational, but also creative and engaging.
Also suitable for schools without a sustainable roof
The teaching package can be used at all schools, including those whose school building does not yet have a sustainable roof. In this way, the package can be an inspiring first step towards greening and sustainability, and helps pupils reflect on their role in a sustainable future.
Extra: School Roof of the Future Toolbox
In addition to the teaching package, there is the School Roof of the Future Toolbox, a practical guide for schools that actually want to get started with their roof. The toolbox contains inspiring examples, explanations of sustainable applications such as solar panels and green roofs, a step-by-step plan, information about laws and regulations, and tips for creating support within the school and the neighbourhood.

Why a School Roof of the Future?
Rooftop Revolution gives eight reasons for a School Roof of the Future:

First-ever School Roof of the Future
The very first School Roof of the Future is being created at De Provenier primary school in Rotterdam. This roof will serve as the model school example for other schools that also want to transform their roof into a green, educational and sustainable place.
