Within the Samen tegen Voedselverspilling Foundation, organisations, the government and knowledge institutions are working together to combat waste by joining forces and working towards one common goal: together, we will make the Netherlands one of the first countries in the world to succeed in reducing food waste by half.

School is the ideal place to make children aware of healthy and sustainable food. Many schools also want to focus on preventing food waste. Fortunately, because what is learned young is learned for life. The list below contains officially recognised basic lesson packages that focus on healthy and sustainable nutrition, including food waste. These packages meet the Voedingscentrum’s continuous learning pathway for Nutrition:

  • Smaaklessen (Primary Education)
  • Weet Wat Je Eet (Secondary Education)
  • Vitaal Burgerschap (Vocational Education)

There is also a list of materials from partners of the Foundation relating to food waste. Finally, the Foundation provides tips for even more information on getting started with this topic at school.

The Foundation recently acquired a mascot, Becky (see image above). Read hereeverything about Becky.
