On 13 February, the four signed a contract at the provincial government building in Zeeland, in the presence of Carla Schönknegt (member of the Provincial Executive of Zeeland) and Vincent van der Veen (IVN Nature Education). Twenty children from grades 6 and 7 applied for the position with a vlog, in which they showed why they should be the new directors.

The contract is for one day per month, and on that day they visit various schools in Zeeland. They then hold discussions with teachers and politicians to see how green schoolyards can be made as enjoyable as possible for children. The child directors also make vlogs about this so that everyone can stay informed. As a salary, the directors may choose a nature outing in the province of Zeeland each month, and they received a vlog camera to record their experiences. Their own schoolyard is not forgotten either. In addition to the annual contract, all the directors received another fifteen hundred euros to make their schoolyard greener.

The appointment of the four child directors is part of the Green Revolution Zeeland Schoolyards, an initiative of IVN Zeeland, GGZ Zeeland and the teacher training college of HZ University of Applied Sciences. The aim is to provide all 200 school locations with a green play and learning environment within one school generation (eight years).
