The Week of Spring Fever is a good start

One of the aims of the Week of Spring Fever is to introduce schools to the theme. It is an enjoyable way and a good start to give attention to relational and sexual education throughout the school. You experience how pupils respond to the lessons and notice how meaningful it is to teach about this subject.

The Week of Spring Fever helps to provide structural attention

Schools that have taken part in the Week of Spring Fever before use the project week to give structural attention to relational and sexual education. The Week of Spring Fever often provides the impetus to put themes such as ‘Resilience’, ‘Body and self-image’ and ‘Sex and the media’ on the agenda throughout the school year. In this way, the project week ultimately helps to give structural attention to this theme and to give it a place in your school plan.

Through these lessons, children develop into people who respect themselves and others. They are aware of their own and other people's feelings, wishes, views and capabilities. And they make responsible choices in the area of relationships and sexuality. For example, they:

  • are more likely to dare to ask questions about sexuality.
  • develop norms and values relating to this subject.
  • become more resilient and address each other about unwanted behaviour.
  • learn to treat each other with respect.

Ultimately, structural attention has more effect than ad hoc activities. Therefore, use the Week of Spring Fever as a starting point for structurally embedding relational and sexual education. View the tips for maintaining attention to the theme.

Pupils with a disability also go through sexual development, have questions about sexuality and display sexual behaviour. View the information, tips and video on how to provide sexual education to pupils with a disability.

2020 theme: Providing sexual education is a celebration!

Each year, there is a special theme for the Week. This year, it is ‘Providing sexual education is a celebration!’ And with good relational and sexual education, which focuses on the enjoyable and positive aspects of sex, sex will also become a celebration later on. With this theme, the Week of Spring Fever wants to show why it is so important and what schools and pupils gain by devoting attention to it.
