What are the benefits?
Trainers, schools and institutions will receive the latest trainers’ manuals and (video) materials that Rutgers will have developed for the programmes by that time.
Participating boys will receive a reward worth €5 for each completed questionnaire. The exact reward will be determined in consultation with the school or institution. If the boys complete all the questionnaires, they will enter a draw for a larger, fun prize.
All participants make a highly important contribution to knowledge about the effectiveness of the current Make a Move(+) programmes and to the further development and implementation of these programmes. In this way, you contribute to improving the psychosexual health of boys and young men.
Training as a gift
In consultation, it is possible to train staff in delivering Make a Move(+) at the expense of the research project. This applies both to schools and institutions that already implement Make a Move(+) and to schools and institutions that do not yet do so. The two-day Make a Move training and two-day Make a Move+ training (worth €450 per training course) are provided by Rutgers.
What does participation involve?
You facilitate 3 moments during the programme when the researchers ask the boys to complete questionnaires:
1. No more than 2 weeks before the start of the programme
2. No more than 1 week after the end of the programme
3. 3 months after the end of the programme
Trainers in the intervention group (based on random allocation): deliver Make a Move(+) during the 2022–2023 school year, as usual, to at least one group of boys.
Trainers in the control group (based on random allocation): first take part in the questionnaire study (this takes approximately 5 months) and only deliver Make a Move(+) afterwards.
Time commitment for trainers
For trainers in the intervention group, participation in the Move Up! research will require approximately 3 additional hours, on top of the time you normally spend on Make a Move(+). These hours consist of providing information, keeping attendance lists of the boys and recording which programme components were and were not delivered. Participation takes less time for trainers in the control group.
Participation for boys
Boys who participate in Move Up! complete a questionnaire 3 times, each taking approximately 15 minutes. We will coordinate how the questionnaires are completed so that this is possible for boys of all ability levels.
