The legal standard remains that smoking will no longer be permitted on school grounds as of 1 August 2020. Because, as State Secretary Blokhuis writes in the email: “Seeing people smoke makes people smoke.”
Working towards smoke-free school grounds
The State Secretary considers it positive that many schoolyards are already smoke-free and encourages schools to continue working on this. Schools can visit rookvrijschoolterrein.nl for advice, practical tips and good examples on making the school grounds smoke-free, or keeping them smoke-free.
Smoke-Free School Grounds is a recognised Healthy School activity. For more information, also read the page Getting started with smoke-free school grounds and information about the theme Smoking and alcohol (primary education) and Smoking, alcohol and drug prevention (secondary education and senior secondary vocational education).
