The lesson

The information session consists of a lesson lasting approximately 50 minutes and is given by ENT doctors and doctors in training in ENT. The aim is to raise awareness of the dangers of exposure to loud noise in a fun and light-hearted way. The fact that the lesson is given by a healthcare professional often appeals greatly to the children, and the lessons are considered a success by the doctors who give them, the pupils and the teachers alike.

Registration

After completing the form on VeiligheidNL, contact is made with an ENT doctor in the area. The next step is for the teacher and the ENT doctor to coordinate and agree on a date and time.

Preventing hearing damage in children

VeiligheidNL is committed to preventing hearing damage in children caused by loud noise. This is necessary because research shows that 1 in 7 children between the ages of 9 and 11 already has incipient hearing loss. VeiligheidNL works together with various partners. Knowledge about how often hearing damage occurs, developments in risk-taking behaviour and what works in prevention forms the basis for effective hearing damage prevention in the Netherlands. The VeiligheidNL website also features a hearing test for children between the ages of 6 and 12, the Kinderhoortest.
