1. Wandering Trail – Dordrecht December Days

If you visit the city centre of Dordrecht between 10 December and 9 January, you will find yourself in a true fairy tale filled with light art. With the wandering map in hand, you walk past twelve water stories at twelve bridges. There is also a fun puzzle for kids to solve.

2. Illuminated Bike Tour – The Hague

Children in the cargo bike and off you go! This cycling route takes you past the most beautiful Christmas trees and decorations in The Hague. Great fun: in front of the Foodhall Scheveningen there are figures decorated with Christmas lights, such as a teddy bear.

3. Festival of Lights Route – Deventer (see photo)

The fact that the Dickens Festival cannot take place in Deventer again this year should not dampen the Christmas atmosphere in the city. The medieval houses are beautifully decorated: dozens of Christmas trees, Christmas garlands and enormous baubles envelop the city in a festive atmosphere.

4. Nijmegen Winter Weeks

Nijmegen is even more beautiful than usual between 18 December and 9 January. During the Nijmegen Winter Weeks, you will find eight grand, impressive light sculptures here. Fancy something extra during your walk along this beautiful light trail? Combine it with a special route featuring Dutch proverbs for children. What is learned young is learned for life!

5. Amsterdam Light Festival

This year marks the tenth edition of the Amsterdam Light Festival. Theme: Celebrate Light! And that is exactly what they do, with beautiful light art projects. Also fun: rent a boat and admire the spectacle of lights from the water. Click here to see when you can take the walking or boating route; the times are limited this year.

6. Light Sculptures Route – Zwolle

Due to its great success, there are no fewer than two light sculpture routes through Zwolle city centre this year. An audio tour guides you through different parts of the centre. Tip: bring your own earbuds or headphones! Read more here about the two light sculpture routes.

7. Magical Maastricht
