Brabant gains 25 more green schoolyards

Noord-Brabant is gaining 25 more green schoolyards. Twenty primary schools, two secondary schools and three vocational education institutions are getting to work to make their schoolyards climate-resilient and green. From 1 May, schools in Brabant could apply for a subsidy for this purpose. This year, the Brabant water authorities, the Province of Noord-Brabant and the Cultural Fund Noord-Brabant are jointly investing €250,000 in the realization of 25 healthy, climate-resilient and green schoolyards. Starting in 2024, €250,000 will be available annually for four years to be distributed.

Schoolyards of the Future

More concentration, more exercise, more enjoyment of learning and better protection against heavy rainfall and extreme drought: a green-blue schoolyard offers countless benefits. Thanks to the ‘Schoolyards of the Future’ scheme, 350 paved schoolyards in Brabant have already been transformed into natural outdoor spaces over the past six years. From 1 May 2024, schools with a good plan for construction, maintenance and integration into lessons could apply for a contribution of up to 70% of the costs, with a maximum of €10,000 per project. Due to the large number of applications, the scheme has now closed for this year. The subsidies were awarded based on the order in which the complete applications were received.

Applications possible again in 2025

From 1 May 2025 through 3 November 2025, schools in Brabant can apply for a subsidy again. The application period may also close earlier if the subsidy ceiling is reached. Applications can be submitted through the Cultural Fund Noord-Brabant. You can already view the scheme via www.brabant.nl. Our Food Week

From 3 to 10 October 2026, it is Our Food Week. A great opportunity to focus with your class at primary school on where our food comes from, how it is made and why healthy and sustainable choices are important. Food education allows pupils not only to learn, but especially to experience. That is why various organisations are joining forces to support schools with inspiring activities, teaching materials and practical tools. Examples include the Mayors’ Breakfast, a free visit to a farm, or shopping vouchers for cooking in the classroom.
