The code now consists of the following 5 steps:
Step 1: Identify the signs
Step 2: Consult with a colleague and, if necessary, consult Veilig Thuis
Step 3: Talk to the person(s) involved
Step 4: Assess (as of 1 January 2019: on the basis of a sector-specific assessment framework)
Step 5: Decide: report to Veilig Thuis and/or provide assistance yourself
The assessment framework describes which situations threaten children's safety to such an extent that reporting to Veilig Thuis is always necessary. This assessment framework makes reporting domestic violence and child abuse less discretionary, because too little action is still being taken when signs of child abuse are identified.
