During a pilot at several special education schools, Gezond Apeldoorn gained valuable insights. Based on these, the programme has been adapted so that it meets the needs of these pupils and their teachers even better. In the 2025–2026 school year, there is room for three special education schools to participate. Schools can register until and including 24 November 2025.

The educational programme is a collaboration between various organisations, including CJG, Sportservice and Apenheul, and is being offered for the ninth time this school year. In the past school year, 2024–2025, almost 800 Year 7 pupils took part. Each year, an Apentrots Challenge Cup is awarded. On 25 September 2025, it was awarded to PCBO De Sjofar from Apeldoorn.

What does the programme consist of?

  • Workbook containing fun and educational exercises about exercise and healthy living.
  • A quiz in which pupils answer questions about their lifestyle.
  • A guest lesson from the Centre for Youth and Family and Apenheul about nutrition.
  • An exercise lesson led by the pupils’ own teacher or someone from Accres.
  • A concluding guided tour of Apenheul.

Costs

Participation in this project is free. However, schools must arrange their own transport and supervision to and from Apenheul. The costs of transport and parking at Apenheul are payable by the school.
