4vuurwerkveilig is a digital educational package that effectively raises pupils' awareness of the dangers of fireworks and teaches them how to handle fireworks safely. Pupils in years 7 and 8 are not yet allowed to set off fireworks themselves, but the educational package gives them the knowledge they will need when they are allowed to do so. What's new?

The educational package has been updated with the latest figures and fireworks regulations. Good protection has been an important element of the package for many years; in addition to the tips, we advise children to wear hearing protection. The package includes, among other things, a (video) presentation, quiz and worksheets with puzzles, experiments and a homework assignment. Depending on the teacher's preferences and possibilities, one lesson can be given, or the material can be spread over several lessons.

The 4vuurwerkveilig educational package was developed on behalf of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management, in cooperation with Brandweer Nederland, VuurwerkCheck and Belangenvereniging Pyrotechniek Nederland (BPN).

What does it include?

The digital educational package consists of a number of components that teachers can cover as they see fit, such as a PowerPoint presentation (with and without voice-over), tests and a fun fireworks quiz. Depending on their preferences and possibilities, teachers can give one lesson or spread the material over several lessons. The focus is on the four fireworks safety tips, which are important for preventing dangerous situations.

Components of the educational package

Presentation

The educational package contains a ready-to-use presentation with slides that you can use in the classroom. This teaches pupils what fireworks are, where they come from and which rules apply. Animations explain the four fireworks safety tips for a safe New Year's Eve. The presentation also contains a video in which fireworks victims talk about their experiences. It also offers ample opportunity for interaction. To help you prepare, you will receive a handout with background information.

Video presentation with voice-over

Don't have time to give the presentation yourself? You can also play the presentation as a video in the classroom, allowing the pupils to watch it themselves.

Homework assignment

Fireworks are set off in the home environment. To ensure that pupils' parents are also familiar with the tips, we have developed a homework assignment. Print the assignment and hand it out in class. The pupils then complete it at home with their parents. A fun way to make fireworks safety a topic of discussion at home.

Quiz

The educational package includes a Kahoot! 4vuurwerkveilig quiz, which can be completed either as a class or individually. What have the pupils learned from the fireworks lesson? Test their knowledge with the quiz.

Activities

You can expand the educational package with various activities, such as a crossword puzzle, a story puzzle and various experiments. This allows pupils to experience for themselves what it is like to live with a fireworks-related disability. We also offer additional ideas for creative activities that you can do with your pupils in the classroom.

Promotional materials

The educational package also contains a digital poster with the four most important fireworks safety tips for preventing accidents during New Year's Eve. You can print it out, give it to the pupils or put it up in the classroom. You could also post it on the school's website or include it in the newsletter.

Certificate

Have the pupils successfully completed the lesson on fireworks safety? Then hand out the new 4vuurwerkveilig certificate, so they can show at home that they know everything about fireworks safety.

Guest teacher

In some regions of the country, it is also possible for a guest teacher to give the presentation from the 4vuurwerkveilig educational package. If this is the case, we will contact you through our partners at Brandweer Nederland, the National Police or VuurwerkCheck.
